Saint Gregory the Great was awarded the Grammy for Best Chant last night at the 59th annual Grammy Awards.

Accepting his award for ‘Salve’ the Roman artist paid tribute to Jesus Christ, whom he said he loved “like a father.”

“I can’t possibly accept this award,” a clearly emotional Gregory said in his acceptance speech. “I’m very humble and I’m grateful and gracious, but the music of my life is Corsican, and the ‘Miserere’ album was just so monumental…people of Corsica, it was so monumental.”

Gregory later went on to apologize for swearing during an earlier performance dedicated to Jesus, saying that “Christ meant so much to me that I could not give a poor performance.”

Gregory becomes the first pope to win a Grammy twice.

Our cameras caught up with fellow nominees, Sts. Ambrose, Gall and Elton Bede, politely applauding St. Gregory but looking somewhat terse. Last year’s winner, Patrick and the Celts were unavailable for comment.

    • Oremus

All are indebted, except Elton, to Guido of Arezzo.

      • Charles

That producer’s had his fingers in so many projects!

  • Okay, this was actually funny.

Can’t wait for his halftime show at the 2018 Super Bowl.

  • Joseph Russell

Gregory was wearing elaborate papal vestments including the falda, stole, and mantum, which he topped off with a tiara.

  • Hotrod1962

Gregory’s swipe at the Ostrogoths, although warranted, is just another example of injecting politics into an awards event.

    • Jim Brooks

I agree and I thought his comments of “Give ’em Hell, Ray” was very disrespectful of Pope Francis.

      • HermitTalker

That was balanced by a spoof of Everybody Loves Raymond that included him smothered by his tons of silk on his cappa manga, being rescued by R Arroyo and NY canon lawyer Sullivan, of wanna be pope EWTN fame.

        • Oremus

I think you meant to write cappa magma, or was it cappa MAGA?

          • HermitTalker

Cappa magna “large great, cape worn to cover butt holes

          • Oremus

Yess, butt….cappa MAGA: acronym: Make America Great Again.

          • HermitTalker

Wisconsin cheese makers make America GRATE again. MAGNA Make AMERICA GROAN NATURALLY AGAIN

          • samton909

No, Cappa Manga is right. It refers to some sort of Japanese comic for adults. That they wear on their heads.

          • HermitTalker

Repeat it is yards/ metres of silk wrapped around pompous assholes who defy the Bishop of Rome’s pastoral concern for the Global Flock

          • samton909

You mean you wrap it around yourself?

          • HermitTalker

            Nope. I am loyal to the Bishop of Rome. Do you read English I can do Latin and Italian also. But no more replies to you humourless sad soul;

  • Shawn McElhinney

“Yo Gregory, I’m really happy for you, Imma let you finish but Tom Aquinas had some of the best songs of all time…some of the best songs of all time.” [Thomas More]

    • HermitTalker

Aquinas did not write plain chant he wrote hymns in Latin. Gregory is still the Great !!

  • Thibaud313

I get none of the references, and especially not that reference to Corsican music. I spent hours trying to find if Saint Gregory the Great had any connection to Corsica.

    • HermitTalker

GREGORY was a citizen of Rome, former Benedictine monk.

      • Thibaud313

Yes I knew that. What does this has to do with Corsica?

        • HermitTalker

Thought the reply answered that. Mellifuous Coitus Omnia SFA
