Telling friends that he had been considering “going big” for Lent for some time now, local parishioner Mike Harvey confirmed Wednesday that he was finally ready to commit to giving up for Lent.

“Usually, I just give up something lame like sweets or coffee, but by the time Easter comes around, I never really feel like I’ve done enough,” said Harvey, adding that he knew a few friends who had given up for Lent and that they seemed to appear “much more relaxed now.”

“I’m just gonna give it a try for a week or so and see how it goes,” Harvey went on to say. “If I’m feeling like it’s just not working out, I’ll just go back to giving up carbohydrates or something like that. But I just really can’t see how giving up on everything and everyone, including my annoying friends, family, and co-workers, wouldn’t make me a better man. Sure, it might be a bit difficult, especially in the beginning, because I’ve become so dependent on my relationships, life goals, health, financial security and so on, but that’s what Lent is all about isn’t it?”
