Bishop Thomas Drumpf, in his inaugural homily, promised to make his new diocese great again and to put Christ first.

As he took the oath of bishopric on Friday, Drumpf vowed that “the forgotten Catholic men and women of our diocese will be forgotten no longer.”

“January 20th, 2017, will be remembered as the day the parishioners became the bishop of this diocese again,” Drumpf told the crowd in his speech from the steps of the Cathedral.

Below is a transcript of his homily:

We are now joined in a great effort to rebuild our diocese and to restore its promise for all the faithful. The faithful want great Catholic schools for their children and sound liturgies for themselves and homilies on doctrine. These are the just and reasonable demands of a faithful people.

But for too many of our diocesan churches, a different reality exists: mothers and children trapped in bad liturgies; ugly churches scattered like tombstones across the landscape of our diocese; an education system which leaves our young and beautiful students deprived of knowledge about the Faith; and political correctness that has stolen too many Sunday mornings and robbed our diocese of so many unrealized potential vocations.

This Catholic carnage stops right here and stops right now.

We assembled here today are issuing a new decree to be heard in every Catholic church of the diocese.  From this day forward, a new vision will govern our diocese.  From this moment on, it’s going to be Jesus Christ first. Every decision on the liturgy, on doctrine, on financial appeals, on homiletics will be made to increase a true love of Christ and His passion on the cross.

We must protect our young families from the ravages of other denominations…stealing our youth, ridiculing our saints, and destroying our devotions. Protection will lead to great prosperity and strength.

I will fight for Christ with every breath in my body, and I will never, ever let Him down. Catholicism will start winning again, winning like never before.

We will bring back our doctrine. We will bring back the rosary. We will bring back the saints. We will bring back our vocations.  We will get our people married in the Church and back to Mass…rebuilding our diocese with faithful sacraments.

We will follow two simple rules: believe that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist and have a true love for His mother, Mary.

At the bedrock of our episcopacy will be a total allegiance to Jesus Christ, and through our loyalty to Him, we will rediscover our love for the Eucharist. We will no longer accept priests who are all talk and no action…constantly talking about conscience but never teaching Catholic doctrine about mortal sin and confession. The time for empty talk is over. Now arrives the holy hour of action to support faithful Catholics. Do not let anyone tell you it cannot be done. No challenge can match the heart and fight of the Holy Spirit. We will not fail. True Catholic families will thrive and prosper again. And yes, together, we will make Christ great again. Thank you. God bless you. And God bless our diocese.

Hubris, unless he has a secret antidote to Original Sin. Same as #45 seems to think he was Elected Global Caesar ruling by decree.

    • senrex

No; that was #44. Today he’s begun to roll back the “decrees” of our Black Narcissus.

      • HermitTalker

Both in different ways. My hope is that unlike #44, Congress will exercise due diligence as constitutionally required to keep POTUS from becoming a total megalomaniac.

  • Thomas Zabiega

Wow, can I least imagine this is not a satirical site! I would sell my house, pack up my bags, and move to the diocese whose bishop would say this. You usually make me laugh, but this time you are making me sad that no such bishop exists in the U.S. (though some come close like Bishop Paprocki).

  • MWK

He does have the antidote to original sin. Baptism. And the sacrements to support it. Same as 45 it would be speaking the truth. The hubris belongs to the elite globalists who are finished. The world is waking up, the Church leadership needs to shake off the effects of the reformation and the protestant secularization of the world, suit up, and reengage the fight.

Sacraments do not cancel and undo the effects of original sin, they assist powerfully as antidotes but do not root out the poison. Your global theory is flawed also. Jesus’ return, not moral conversion or the election of a non- idiot Democratic or GOP POTUS or immaculately conceived Bishop of Rome will rid the world of sin in Church and State. Believers and citizens who are not irrational fanatics gradually prepare for the final victory. Absolutely not achievable yet until the Snake’s head Genesis3:15 is finally crushed. I assume we shall be long dead, and out of Purgatory by then. ” Shalom y’all” as Southern USA Jews say in synagogue.

Relax Hermit. Just follow the instruction of putting Christ first and all will be resolved

        • HermitTalker

Simplistic fundamentalism. The Catholic Church combines Reason with Faith. Great combo. I recommend it, Jim.

          • MWK

405: the catechism says, “baptism, by imparting the life of Christ’s grace, erases original sin”… And it goes on to say there is still an inclination that requires you to fight. Sounds like an antidote. Maybe the hermit is being precise in some respect, but i get the impression jim brooks has some good advice for hermit.

Great satire but…perhaps it rings true?

I am AN Aristotelian Experiential, scientific; my brother seems to be Platonic idealistic. Consequences of Original Sin plague me in small subtle ways now despite daily Mass, Chaplet Rosary and monthly confession and anointing for physical pain. I do my best in His Love and forgiveness, I avoid Plato whose philosophy overtook the simple Jewish Gospel and overlaid it with a legalistic jumble to smother so many. Francis is teaching what the COUNCIL restored and is being thwarted by anal retentive hierarchs. Shalom

      • samton909

You hardly ever meet an Aristotelian experiential scientific Platonic Numismatic idealist anymore these days.

        • HermitTalker

ONE DOES IN MY WORLD. We avoid PC Left and Right extremists and anti-Francis bishop of Rome and Jesus only understands Latin and PC and other irrational dissenters,

          • samton909

I fear only Jesus could understand that sentence.

          • HermitTalker

Frankly My Dear I recommend you (a) learn English or (b) get a sense of irony.

          • Casper

            Here is what you wrote:
“ONE DOES IN MY WORLD. We avoid PC Left and Right extremists and anti-Francis bishop of Rome and Jesus only understands Latin and PC and other irrational dissenters,”
You recommend that samton “learns English”? I recommend that you learn to use punctuation, and to finish your sentences.

          • HermitTalker

Please disappear Ghost Casper you snide ******* IIIII

          • Casper

You make no sense – – time to block you! I’m sure others have as well…

          • HermitTalker

I WROTE IN LATIN AND ENGLISH SINCE. SORRY TO LOSE YOU.
