Days after the Pontiff sustained injuries after hitting his head in a popemobile accident in Colombia, Pope Francis has now condemned his own motu proprio, Magnum Principium, allowing bishops’ conferences control over the translation of liturgical texts.

Pope Francis had originally published the motu proprio, which shifted control over liturgical texts from Apostolic See to diocesan bishop, before hitting his head against a bar during the accident.

According to one adviser to the pope, Monsignor Alberto Pico, Pope Francis began acting “odd” not long after the accident.

“On the plane back to Rome, he was reading a copy of Magnum Principium and began calling it a bunch of crap, before opening the door to the plane and throwing it out. He wasn’t aware that he was the one who wrote it. When we told him that it was his own writing, he became extremely angry and would not believe us.”

Pico went on to say that moments after landing in Rome, Francis demanded to go to a chapel located just miles from the airport, where he began preparations to say the Latin Mass, saying, “Dammit, Pico, hand me my chasuble…now!”

“It was all quite surreal. After the Mass, he asked those close to him to begin the processes of reversing nearly everything he has said and done since his election, including demoting nearly all of the bishops and cardinals that he had created. In this way, His Holiness added, he would be able to retire in one year, and would be able leave the Church as it had been before his election.”

There are a bunch of FSSP guys reading this ad hopingi t is not from EOTT. SSPX are instantly looking for a new reason to reject reconciliation.

    • Scott Blackwood

I think our best hope is (disclaimer: I am an FSSP guy) that this move toward more subsidiarity in the authority to translate might help those who celebrate the Ordinary Form in less developed countries (where there might be more dialects) by making the vernacular text actually closer to the meaning of the original Latin text.

That being said, the joke seems to be that it would practically take a knock on the head for the Pope to do anything traditional-leaning.

The sad news is, Father James Martin is waiting at Santa Marta for the Pope to get back. And he has a hammer in his hand.

    • christopherschaefer

Father James Martin? Are you sure that’s a hammer in his hand??

      • Casper

Yes – – so he can bop him on the head and restore him. A la “Gilligan’s Island”.

    • More Tea Vicar?

Hammer … for one moment, I thought it read ‘handbag’ – that would be James Martin SJ’s style (Society of Judas).

      Ah, well…

  • I don’t get why people think Pope Francis is hostile to Latin Mass, given that he celebrated it monthly in Argentina.

    • samton909

Nonsense. He never celebrated it at all. What he did do was restrict it. He designated one church in the entire archdiocese to be the place where the Latin Mass would be celebrated. He said it could only happen once a month. They could not celebrate it in the church, they had to go down in the crypt below the church to celebrate it. Then he designated a priest to celebrate it that was hostile to the Latin Mass, and they changed the mass around so that it did not even resemble the mass of the 1962 Missal. About a hundred people turned out for the first mass, but when they found out what was going on, they naturally dropped out, so now very few people go to the sham. When priests try to do the Latin Mass on their own, they received orders from Bergoglio to stop.

The reality is – that to be called “The Roman Catholic Church” you need to be celebrating the “Roman Rite” codified in “Quo Primum” by Pope St Pius V. Read it online….It’s extremely clear.

Pope St Pius V strictly forbade any further Mass to be created in the Roman Rite – other than that which existed at the time of his Papal Bull. Therefore the ancient Liturgies of the other Rites of the Church were ALSO deemed acceptable to be celebrated for eternity.

He was extremely clear- stating that no other Mass but the Tridentine Mass (ie codiefied by the Council of Trent) must ever be celebrated by any Priest joined to the Roman Catholic Church.

It’s silly really – when it comes to fulfilling our Sunday Morning Obligation – the Vatican are still claiming to be celebrating the “Roman Rite” – our obligation is therefore only fulfilled by our attending the Tridentine Mass. That is Church Law. (see Fr Hesse, Canon Lawyer trained at Rome – on YOUTUBE somebody PLEASE!

Research also, Fr Gommer de Pauw – Both were highly respected Theologians of the Roman Rite Vatican Church, both Canon Lawyers and they have both stated that since the Latin Mass was designated as being “forever” and “unchangeable” by a former Pope – the Church is forever bound to that dogmatic Statement. They also both stated that the creation of the Novus Ordo is a Schismatic Rite. Our Lord Jesus Christ also condemned the future “New Mass” in 1902 through the mystic and stigmatic Marie Julie Jahenny whose Prophecies from Our Lord can be read online – (go to community of Hope – Marie Julie Jahenny – and see for yourselves)

The TRUE Rite of the Church can never be altered from being the Tridentine Mass. Pope St Pius V decreed that all OTHER Masses that were in existence at the time of his Papal decree could still be celebrated by the other Rites of the Catholic Church etc…. but he strictly forbade in “Quo Primum” any future NEW Masses being created adjoined to the Codified Roman Rite of the Catholic Church.

A Pope is excommunicated who disobeys Tradition.

        God Bless

          • Child of the True Church

Your view of the Church is heretical.

          • HermitTalker

            Detail your evidence please COTC?

          • HermitTalker

Saint Pope Pius V did not forbid any future translations of the Mass texts. Otherwise what right did he have to change it in his time. You illiterates are incapable of translation properly

        • Tradition&Authority

1st error, you said that all masses of the ancient liturgies before Quo Primum was acceptable. nope. sorry. here it is:
Let all everywhere adopt and observe what has been handed down by the Holy Roman Church, the Mother and Teacher of the other churches, and let Masses not be sung or read according to any other formula than that of this Missal published by Us.

          and:

We specifically command each and every patriarch, administrator, and all other persons or whatever ecclesiastical dignity they may be, be they even cardinals of the Holy Roman Church, or possessed of any other rank or pre-eminence, and We order them in virtue of holy obedience to chant or to read the Mass according to the rite and manner and norm herewith laid down by Us and, hereafter, to discontinue and completely discard all other rubrics and rites of other missals, however ancient, which they have customarily followed; and they must not in celebrating Mass presume to introduce any ceremonies or recite any prayers other than those contained in this Missal.

Only masses made 200+ years before Quo Primum were acceptable, and if the diocese dropped it, it was gone for ever.

2nd error, the worst one: The mass could not change, false. all ranks of clergy are listed exept, notice exept, the Pope, The Holy Father. Notice you did not give a quote, give us a quote. A man without a quote is a man without a fact

What happened the irony of this EOTT site? Is someone on a sabbatical and replaced by a fanatic Latinist or a Sede Vacante heretic or both. I want the usual insanity back. Please,

Wow, Good eye. As a matter of fact, almost all articles are now composed by Archbishop Lefebvre. When he is not available, Mel Gibson and his crack team of sedevacantist experts contribute articles. Here is a picture of them at work.

True story: A US seminarian was asked if a Latin liturgical text was accurately translated to English, that was in the 90s. A USCC official told me at a workshop.

Francis spoke (after being hit on the head) of the liturgical development since the Second Vatican Council and said: “after this long journey, we can affirm with certainty and magisterial authority that the liturgical reform is irreversible”.

Sensus fidelium (sense of the faithful) may have something to say about that.

    • HermitTalker

The opponents of the Latin Mass are so arrogant, their Sensus Fidelium is accusing Rome of being Sede Vacante and Popes of being freemasons, protestants were translators of the Novus Ordo and Communists and US Democrats think POTUS Trump is the anti-Pope to my turn HRC. Her Royal C***
