According to a new survey out today by the Evangelical Institute of Spiritual Health reveals that 88% of evangelicals in the United States believe that eating Chick-fil-A is a form of tithing.

“Most of those who took part in the survey said that shoveling down a Spicy Chicken Sandwich or Chick-n-Strips from Chick-fil-A while zesty buffalo sauce dripped down the side of their mouth was equivalent to, if not altogether more spiritually beneficial, than the traditional form of tithing,” said head researcher Pastor Douglas Williams.

“This is not a complete shock to us,” Williams continued. “In fact, we first conducted this survey based on the assumption we had that many evangelicals who choose to skip Sunday services, felt less guilty if they had at least been able to make it to Chick-fil-A sometime that week.”

While researchers are confident that some Christians equate eating Chick-fil-A with being a “good steward,” many in the evangelical world have taken it a step further, saying that being good stewards is no longer good enough for them.

“We want to be perfect stewards,” said one Chick-fil-A congregant. “The reason why the term ‘perfect stewardship’ is not mentioned in the bible is because Chick-fil-A didn’t exist then. But it does now, and so God expects more from us.”
