ROME––Bishop Javier Echevarria Rodriguez, head of the Prelature of the Holy Cross and Opus Dei, countered what he called “unfair and ridiculous attacks” against Opus Dei on Immaculate Heart Radio this morning. “Because of documentaries, the mainstream media, as well as books like The DiVince Code,” he said, “far too many people have been seduced by the idea that we’re Catholic Freemasons; a secret society manipulating the Church from within. But these are all lies.” The Spanish Bishop offered what he called “a better alternative” for finding out the truth of Opus Dei, asking those interested in finding out more about the prelature to remember that “Midnight is the mark…downtown, between 4th and B, where Palm does root beside stone crypts, and below which, inscribed epitaph does mark the point, a hooded man shall greet thee; follow him to the way the furrow and the forge.”

I found this really funny but this might be a pain for members of Opus Dei because of all the people who take these things seriously as I have friends who are numeraries and already have to fight the pushback. (for those of you whp didnt know, this is a parody, people!) Just sayin’

  • Once again things are made clear. Thanks!
There is so much information on the official website: http://www.opusdei.org and each country has an information office. It is well worth discovering the beauty of the message and the reality of Opus Dei but to keep in mind that it is just another path in the Catholic Church to reach the same destination, the holiness that everyone is called to.
Just for the record, the final quote of Bishop Javier does not sound at all accurate! Who knows where that came from!?

It’s a joke, of course. A play on the arcane map directions of “The Da Vinci Code.”

I think this EOTT entry is making fun of ODAN and their ilk, not Opus Dei.

  • HA HA HA HA!

    Great post.

Cult members always deny that their cult is a cult. It’s the most sure sign that the cult is indeed a cult…except in the case of Opus Dei, which screams “cult” loudly and clearly, and doesn’t need any denial to prove that it is indeed a cult.
